La Joya High School's Matt Ortiz Earns Historic All-State Honors, Continues Legacy of Excellence

La Joya, TX - Excellence is not achieved overnight. It is built through years of dedication, perseverance, and an unwavering commitment to growth. For La Joya High School graduate Matt Ortiz, that commitment has culminated in one of the most remarkable accomplishments in school history.
La Joya ISD proudly celebrates Ortiz for being named to the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association (THSBCA) Elite All-State Baseball Team, placing him among the top high school baseball players in Texas and one of only 12 athletes from the Rio Grande Valley selected to the prestigious team.
Adding to an already historic year, Ortiz recently became the first baseball player in La Joya High School history to be selected to participate in the THSBCA All-State All-Star Game, a distinction reserved for the state's most outstanding senior baseball players.
The recognition caps off a stellar senior season in which Ortiz established himself as one of the premier hitters in Texas. According to MaxPreps, he finished the season with a batting average above .500, ranking among the top hitters in Class 6A, while also placing among the state's leaders in RBIs. His performance helped lead the Coyotes to another successful season and a deep playoff run, further cementing his impact on the program.
Earlier this school year, Ortiz signed with the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, where he will continue his academic and athletic career at the collegiate level.
“These various recognitions are an honor to hold,” said Ortiz, who has been playing baseball since he was six years old. “This recognition represents the sacrifices my family has made, the support of my coaches and teammates, and the countless hours invested into this. I hope this achievement shows younger athletes that with hard work, dedication, and belief in yourself, anything is possible.”
For La Joya High School Head Baseball Coach Guadalupe Barrera, Ortiz's accomplishments extend far beyond statistics.
"Matt's success is a reflection of the hard work, discipline, and commitment he has shown throughout his career," said Barrera. "What makes this achievement even more special is that he has become a role model for our younger athletes. He leads by example, competes with confidence, and represents the La Joya community with pride and character. Being selected to the Elite All-State Team and the All-State All-Star Game is a tremendous honor, and we couldn't be prouder of everything he has accomplished."
Throughout his high school career, Ortiz earned a reputation not only for his talent on the field but also for his leadership, work ethic, and ability to inspire those around him. Coaches and teammates alike have praised his competitive spirit and dedication to continuous improvement, qualities that have helped him reach new heights while setting a standard for future generations of Coyote baseball players.
His historic selection to the THSBCA All-State All-Star Game represents a milestone not only for Ortiz but also for La Joya High School's baseball program, highlighting the continued growth and success of student-athletes across the district.
Ortiz's achievements exemplify La Joya ISD's commitment to developing Empowered Graduates through opportunities that encourage excellence in academics, athletics, leadership, and character. As he prepares to continue his baseball journey at UTRGV, he leaves behind a legacy that will inspire future Coyotes for years to come.
La Joya ISD congratulates Matt Ortiz on this outstanding accomplishment and wishes him continued success as he begins the next chapter of his academic and athletic career.
